How To Use Colors In Christmas/Holiday Decorations

For all who are dying to do something totally different and refreshing for your Christmas decorations, this hub is for you!

Christmas is here again, and as it is the tradition, holiday decorations adorns store windows, aisles and shelves. Elves, Grinch and Santa figures dressed up in festive outfits or costumes. And, don't forget the salvation army guy with the church bell at every store entrance. He only get to do this once a year. It's his one chance, once-a-year call to a world too busy to notice the needy around them, and actually give. This year though, he may see a 37% drop in the noise that hits the bucket every time someone empties their pocket change.

One thing that set's this season apart from all the others is the red and green colors and glittering decors that's a common theme everywhere. A theme we can't seem to get away from. Or can we?

That's right, forget the usual red and green Christmas, it's getting old. I for one I'm tired of the same ol' same ol' red, green, gold glitters I see everywhere. Who said Christmas decorations only has to be in red and green? Grandma maybe, but what say ye?

"We want pretty, girly colorful Christmas ornaments and decorations!!!".

So this year I plan to go against the norm. I just need to decide on a new theme. To do this I need to work with what I already have working for me. You know, like, the color of my wall or furniture.

If you're thinking of getting away from the old green, red, and gold Christmas theme, you'll have to look around your home and see what works. If you have a purple wall, then one or two of this hub's featured theme might work for you. If you have a neutral color wall of décor, then you may have a whole lot of options to choose from. Here are some pretty, colorful, girly Christmas theme that even the 'real men' in your life are sure to fall in love it. You may actually win grandma over with these colorful Christmas theme:

Pink and purple may be what most people will think of when choosing a wedding theme, but these two colors look gorgeous when used in Christmas decorations. You can use them in combination with other colors like lavender and turquoise.

Pink and purple ornaments, garlands, and even Christmas trees can be found in stores such as, TJ Maxx, Marshall's, and Macy's. You may even be found these on online stores.

This theme borrows a little of the green from the traditional red and the green Christmas theme, but make no mistake, this, is not your usual green. Lime green is in a class of its own among the green family of colors.

It brings life to every other color it comes in contact with, especially when paired with turquoise. This is a theme I'm seriously thinking about for my Christmas theme. I might deviate a little and throw in some pink shades in the bunch. Kind of like a turquoise, green, and fuchsia blend, with a look very similar to that in the first image of this hub, fruity blend I call it.

Grey and red may not seem like a likely Christmas theme to you at first, but don't write if off yet. I know the color grey does always seem to get the bad wrap for being boring and uninteresting, but not when it's paired with an elegant, majestic color like red.

Decorating with the grey and red Christmas theme may actually pose some challenge, especially if you don't already have these two colors in place. Remember, the goal is to always start with what you already have. For instance, a room with a red or grey wall, or, white or cream wall will be perfect for decorating in this theme, because the theme is already in place, which makes it easy to just build on it.

If you must use red in your Christmas decoration, do it with class. A red and white Christmas theme is definitely one to behold. It's a theme that's pleasing to the eyes. We're talking no green, none whatsoever, except for the dough that your hubby will have to shell out to make it happen, if you know what I mean.

If there's any elegant way to decorate for Christmas, and I'm talking about the "Jackie O." type of elegance, that will be the red and snow white Christmas theme. You'll love it, and so will your neighbors and friends, if you can pull it off. Here are some ideas to get you started:

This is a great eye-catching theme that's been around for a while, though not as old as the traditional red and green theme. You can play around with a royal blue theme by mixing with some neutral colors. Colors such as silver, white, cream works really well. Yellow and gold are other colors that blends well with royal blue, if only those baubles come in yellow!

If none of the afore-mentioned themes meets the criteria for what you're looking for, then you might want to consider the following:

• All Pink Christmas Theme - With white baubles, pink lips images, and lollipops hanging on the tree.
• A Black and White Christmas Theme - Complete with silhouette black cats or bats tree ornaments.

A common theme in all of the Christmas decorations above is the use of eye-catching colors or color mix. Color helps to enhance a sense of festivity. But, if you're a little hesitant about all these colors, and you'll rather stick with the usual red and green ornaments that's been a part of your family's Christmas/holiday tradition, here are some subtle ways to use colors and still keep what you have.

• Use colorful, bubble-gum shade of color gift wrappers. These would definitely add a splash of festivity to your home décor.
• Colorful candles are a great way to add some colors around your home. Light them up and you also get the warm feelings of the holiday.

Having said all that, just one note. Christmas is less about the decorations than it is about the one who came with the gift of life for all mankind. The one and only Jesus Christ, the Savior of mankind. That's who it's all about. So, don't get all hung up on the decorations, make it all about the real reason for the season.
