What Is the Silhouette CAMEO™?
The Silhouette CAMEO™ is an electronic designing and cutting tool that's great for scrap-booking and card making. It also works well for cutting embellishments used on custom clothing. Though it works like some die-cut machines out there, the CAMEO is not really a die-cut machine as it needs no die-cut template to function.
The CAMEO uses the Silhouette Studio® software. This software is free and offers a wide variety of tools and functions used in creating custom projects. This software makes creating designs a cinch. Once the designs has been created, they can either be sketched or cut-out for the intended project.
The CAMEO is designed to work with a Personal Computer or Mac via a USB cable that comes with the machine. When connected to a computer, the CAMEO works very much like a home printer, except that instead of printing, the CAMEO uses a small blade to cut the designs into finished work or art. When the blade is replaced by a pen, the CAMEO will sketch out the design instead of cutting it. This process is controlled from a computer or a Secure Digital Card.
Cutting Fonts With The Silhouette CAMEO™
The Silhouette Studio® software can also make use of fonts that are already installed on your computer. These fonts can be cut and incorporated into your designs.
There are off-the-rack designs and shapes that can be purchased through the Silhouette Online Store. These designs and shapes can be stored permanently for use with the Silhouette. They cost about 99¢ each, which is far less than the cost of some die-cut machines cartridges.
Cutting Images With The Silhouette CAMEO™
The Silhouette CAMEO™ is a very flexible machine that's equipped with a cutting mat. It can however, operates with or without the mat. With the CAMEO you can cut any project of any length.
The CAMEO also has a print and cut feature. This feature allows the CAMEO the ability to cut out already printed designs, print images straight from the image library of the silhouette, or print images that are imported into the silhouette from the web. The Silhouette CAMEO™ has the ability to cut paper, card-stock, vinyl, fabric, and other materials. So no matter how difficult your project may be, the CAMEO is up to the task.
