Teens these days all own or want to own some sort of video games. For the parents, this means you have to be willing to shed out some hundreds of dollars, as the cost of these video (console and games) can easily add up to close to a thousand dollar.

It also means that parents need to take the extra steps needed to monitor the games their teens are playing, either online, or on their PCs as most of these videos have a high level of violent content.

For your teens though, it's all part of being in the know. My son recently made a request for some video games that he wanted. NBA 2K12 - NBA 2K12 is a basketball video game developed by Visual Concepts.
This is the game for your hoop addict teen. Players take control of the most iconic players in NBA history and play them against other classic and modern-day teams.

Players are also now able to utilize signature moves of basketball legends, such as, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's sky-hook and Hakeem Olajuwon's Dream Shake. No violence involved, I actually like and will enjoy watching this with my teens.

Need For Speed; The Run - In The Run, players are engaged in an "underground world of illicit, high stakes racing,". Setting for these races takes place in San Francisco and New York, with stops through Las Vegas, Denver, Detroit, and other locations.

Player blows across borders, weaves through dense urban traffic, and navigates narrow canyons at top speeds, covering over 300 km(186 miles) of track. A great game for your now grown-up Lightning McQueen fan.

Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed - Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed is another racing video game in this list. But, unlike the older Need for Speed games, is not just an arcade,
action-oriented game, it caters more to a sim audience, giving them the feel of driving in real life.
The game features three new main additions: an in-helmet camera, night-time racing and the Autolog, which helps to redefine simulated racing so that fans get as close to the feeling of real racing as possible.

Star Wars; The Old Republic - This is a multiplayer online role-playing game based in the Star Wars universe. Star Wars; The Old Republic is a game of class, and a world of dark vs. light. Players advances after successful completion of a mission, exploration, or after defeating an enemy. Some violence involved.

Saints Row 3 - Saints Row: The Third is an action-adventure open world video game developed by Volition, Inc. The games story focuses on the urban gang war between a rival criminal group, the Saints and The Syndicate. The game is set in the fictional city of Steelport. Gang violence involved.

Video Platform

Most of these videos can be played on different platforms. Some are played on XBox 360, some on PlayStation 3, some are played on PC platforms, using Windows.

The problem with most of these video games is the level of violence portrayed. So, if you're concerned about your teen's exposure to violence, then check the reviews of these videos before you purchase them.
