Unemployed and Pressed For Cash | Your Home Could Be Your Pot of Gold
Desperate Time Calls For Desperate Measures
If I have to guess, I'll say one out of every three of those you know are probably out of a job. Many have been unemployed now for close to a year or more. You're probably one too. That's one thing I find so common with the influx of online writers. Losing a job has driven many to sites like this where we can make some extra money on the side writing just about anything.
You may even be a retiree using the media to make some extra cash. What you don't know is that you are actually sitting on money, and desperate time calls for desperate measures. If you are pressed for cash and you need quick money to pay one or more of your bills, the solution is right there in your home. Here are a few pointers:
Hidden Treasures
Raid Your Attic or Loft
You'll be surprised how much you have stuffed up there in your attic. This is especially true for all of you 'grandparents'. You keep everything from when you had your kids hoping to pass those items on to the grandkids. Some of these items may even have sentimental values, and may be very expensive, but lets face it, your grand kids may not share your sentiments.
The truth is, today’s grand-kids may want no part of those items you're keeping in your attic if it's not compatible with an iPad, iPod, or iPhone. There you go, it's time to sell off some of those things and make yourself some extra cash.

The key to being a good bargain hunter is knowing where to shop, when to shop, and how to shop. Here's a few of my bargain hunting tips for finding great bargain.
De-Clutter Your Garage
Some of you have stuffs in your garage that if a financial planner should walk in your garage today, you'll probably be worth close to a six-digit number value. Well, maybe not exactly, but if you price every item in your garage (not including your cars, that is, if there's even space for your cars in the garage) for at least 5 dollars, how much would you come up with? De-cluttering your garage and having a very generous and liberating 'garage sale' may be the answer to having that money you so need to pay your bills.
I know a friend who likes to buy every shoe she likes in every color available. Her shoe closet is so full; she had to make room for more in her garage. Some still have tags on them because they've never been worn. When she's complaining about hard times, I tell her, "those shoes need to go". What needs to go in your garage?
Re-Discover Your Closet
Even though we go in our closets every day; I would think you do, many of us will be shocked to find that there are some things in our closets that we don’t know exists. If you’ve ever bought anything clothing item just because it was on sale, you probably fit this category of people. I have to admit, even I used to be in this category, not anymore, ‘Thank God’ for liberating me. Now, I only buy what is necessary, when it’s necessary.
Your closet may currently hold some hidden treasures, if
- there are clothes that hasn’t been worn in over a year - $$$
- there are clothes or shoes that don’t fit well as they used to (you know what I mean) - $$$
- some items in your closet still have tags on them - $$$
- you have two of the same apparel, could be in different colors - $$$
Once these treasures are discovered, you can dispose of them through a garage sale; sell them on eBay or Amazon. You can even sell them to a consignment store. Be generous in setting the price to get a quick sell or offer from buyers.
Down-Size Your Kitchen Pantry & Cabinets
Kitchens can be a great place to find those hide-away items. The pantry always seems to hold a lot of stuffs, some of which we don’t really need or have too much of. You know how sometimes grocery stores gives you some grocery item for free for buying some things you really need? Well, some of those ‘free’ items sometimes turn out to be items we don’t really need.
Also, remember those cooking utensils you got from junior for Mother's Day, and the cookware sets you got from your husband on your last birthday (because he thinks you all need to eat out less). Those could easily translate into cash you desperately need. And, don't forget those flatware and table wares sets stacked away somewhere in your kitchen. Those were wedding gifts from twelve years ago.
The truth is, many of us find it hard to part with gifts we got for those special occasions like weddings, anniversaries, or birthdays. So we let them sit and waste away in our kitchen cabinets or in our pantries. It’s time you set them free and turn those items into cash as those bills have got to be paid!
Are there valuable items in your home you don't even know exists?
Re-Arrange Your Home Library
Recently, while browsing through Amazon for something I needed, I came across some books that I read in college that we being offered for sale. Judging by the comments on that page, these books are still very much in high demand because some schools still recommends them for their African-American Literature Class.
Well, I didn't sell mine. Turns out some of the same books were on the list of books needed in my son's high school library. And parents were being asked to either donate these books or give a cash/check donation toward the purchase of these books.
Have you looked at the content of your home library lately? Those books may just be worth some useable cash. Home libraries are great place for treasured knowledge, but they can also be a great hideaway for those old books of your past you may need to get rid of.
Hidden Treasures Arcade
You're probably wondering, could there be more? Yes. There is more. Think about the toys in your kids room, the clothes sitting on the hanger in their closets, and the shoes. Kids grow fast. And most likely, they out-grown some of their clothes, shoes and toys. You can make some money on eBay selling those used children clothes.
Do you have little ones? Get their help to set up a lemonade stand. Offer different flavor varieties too. That could bring in enough to pay the water or light bill.
